Military and Veteran Plates

Honoring Service and Sacrifice

Michigan is proud to offer a variety of license plates specifically designed for service members, veterans, and their families. These plates recognize the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Available designs honor different branches of the military, specific conflicts, service awards, and veteran status.

Types of Military and Veteran Plates

Options include plates for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve members. There are also plates commemorating service in conflicts such as World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Global War on Terrorism, among others. Additionally, special plates recognize recipients of specific honors, such as the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star.

Applying for Military and Veteran Plates

To apply for military and veteran plates, individuals must provide proof of service or discharge papers (DD Form 214 or equivalent), along with any additional documentation required for specific honors or recognitions. Applications can be submitted through the Michigan Secretary of State office, either in person or by mail.

Benefits and Recognition

Beyond the honor of recognition, these plates offer tangible benefits, including eligibility for specific parking privileges and exemptions in some cases. They serve as a daily reminder of the sacrifices made by service members and veterans, and offer a way for the community to recognize and thank them for their service.

Supporting Veteran Services

A portion of the fees collected from the purchase and renewal of military and veteran plates is allocated to support veteran services within Michigan. This includes programs and resources aimed at assisting veterans and their families, such as healthcare, education, and employment services.
